Privacy Policy

Overview

Your privacy is important to The Center for Effective Philanthropy (“CEP”), and we are committed to respecting that privacy. This Privacy Policy describes the personal information practices for websites we operate (“Websites”), such as the CEP and YouthTruth websites, including what type of information is gathered and tracked, how the information is used, and with whom the information is shared.

By visiting or using any of our Websites, you are consenting to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

This Privacy Policy was last updated on August 7, 2014.

Personal Information

In general, you can visit the Websites without telling us who you are and without revealing any personal information about yourself.

If you use specific features of a Website, such as the publication ordering function on the CEP Website or the Get Started page on the YouthTruth Website, you will be asked to give us personal information, such as your name or e-mail address or phone number, that will be needed to (for example) correspond with you, respond to your inquiry, process an order, or provide you with a subscription. Aside from aggregating data, with all personal information removed, to allow us to check on our own performance, we will use your personal information only to fulfill the request(s) you make of us, and to allow us to contact you if there are any problems with your request. We will not exchange or sell your e-mail address to third parties. However, we reserve the right to disclose your personal information as required by law; when we believe that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights; to comply with a judicial proceeding, court order, or legal process; or in connection with an actual or proposed corporate transaction or insolvency proceeding involving all or part of the business or asset to which the information pertains.

To use our Online Reporting System (ORS), you will need to sign in using credentials that we provide to you, and we may share the name and organization associated with those credentials, as well as other information, with third party analytic vendors as further described below.

Information Security and Quality

The security of your personal information is important to us. We follow generally accepted industry standards to protect the personal information submitted to us, both during transmission and once we receive it. However, no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. Therefore, while we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

We will make a sincere effort to respond in a timely manner to your requests to correct inaccuracies in your personal information, to remove personal information you do not want stored, or to answer any questions you may have about our use of your information.

Information Gathered through Cookies and Other Technologies

In general, you can use the Websites in all ways without using the technology known as “cookies.” A cookie is a short identifier, stored on your computer that a website may use to identify you when you make return visits to it. The features of The Websites were generally designed to work without cookies, so if you turn them off, you may still browse, search, and order publications at our Website, however you will not be able to access certain features, such as reports, if you have cookies disabled when using ORS.

We may collect anonymous information from visits to the Websites to help us provide better customer service and a better customer experience. For example, we keep track of the IP addresses and domains from which people visit, and we measure user activity on our Websites, including tracking which users accessed which portions of our Website, but, with the exception of ORS, we do so in ways designed to keep each user’s personal identity and information anonymous. CEP and the analytic vendors we select may use this data to analyze Website usage trends and statistics, to help us improve our Websites. We make tracking information, including your name and organization, available to the analytic vendor that conducts such analyses for the ORS site, which it may store on its servers in order to conduct such analyses.

When we collect personal data from you in connection with a transaction (an order, e-mail request, etc.) we may extract some information about that transaction in an anonymous format and combine it with other anonymous information such as clickstream data. This anonymous information is used and analyzed only at an aggregate level to help us understand trends and patterns in our Website’s usage.

Business Relationships

The Websites may contain links to other websites. CEP is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of these websites. We encourage you to be aware when you leave one of our Websites and to read the privacy policies of each and every website you visit that collects personal information. This Privacy Policy applies only to information collected by our Websites.

Changes to our Privacy Policy

If we decide to change our Privacy Policy, we will post changes to this Website and other places we deem appropriate so that you are aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it.

We reserve the right to modify this Privacy Policy at any time, and such change will apply with respect to information you provide or your activity on the Website after the change in policy, so please review it frequently. If we make changes that materially affect our uses or disclosures of personal information that we have previously collected, we may contact you to obtain your consent to have the changes to our Privacy Policy apply retroactively.
